College Success is a two-credit course that explains RTC’s different systems and services.  It includes information such as identifying strengths, choosing classes, paying for school, studying effectively, and finding resources to support success. It’s required for new students in many of RTC’s programs (check your program map to see if COL 101 is required in your first quarter).

What you’ll learn in COL 101:

  1. Apply computer technology skills to support your education.
  2. Develop strategies to advocate for self and others.
  3. Explore your career and program choice to ensure long-term goals.
  4. Identify and use the right campus resources to support your success at RTC.
  5. Understand your learner styles and what methods work best for you.

If you have already completed a minimum of 45 college credits at a 2.0 GPA or higher, you may not need to take COL 101.

45 or More College-Level Credits Earned Prior to RTC

Students may be eligible to waive COL 101 if they completed 45 or more college-level credits (100-level or above) at another college or university before starting their first program at RTC.

These credits must be earned externally and do not include coursework completed at RTC, pre-college or remedial classes, or credits currently in progress. Eligible external credits may include transfer coursework, military credit, AP/IB credit, or completion of a prior certificate or degree.

Important: The COL 101 waiver is intended for students who enter RTC with significant prior college experience. Students should not delay enrolling in COL 101 in order to reach 45 credits at RTC, as RTC-earned credits do not count toward this waiver.
