To ensure our students are receiving the most optimal support possible with the Transcript Ordering service, we wanted to make you aware of information that may impact transcript mail delivery. The US Postal service is experiencing an unprecedented volume increase and limited employee availability. We are also seeing delays with International mail, including instances where some countries are not accepting mail for certain periods of time. There could be delays in sending and receiving mailed transcripts.

Official & Unofficial Transcripts

Both the official and the unofficial transcripts contain the same information about a student's academic record at Renton Technical College: a chronological list of classes, grades, and credits.

Important Note Before Finalizing Parchment Official Transcript Order

If you would like us to process your official RTC transcript order after quarter grades and/or a credential have been posted to your RTC transcript, you are required to select the “Hold for Grades” or “Hold for Degree” option(s) upon completing your Parchment Official Transcript order. Failure to do so may result in you having to place an additional Parchment transcript order, and paying an additional fee for an updated official transcript that includes quarterly grades and/or a credential.

Official Transcript (Online only)

An official transcript includes the Registrar's signature, the Renton Technical College seal, and the date issued. An official transcript is delivered in a sealed envelope that should not be opened by anyone except the addressee. RTC has authorized Parchment to process and accept payment for transcript requests. Each official transcript order will be assessed a service fee of $10.75 per transcript. It typically takes 2-3 business days to process an order but may take up to a week. This does not account for an additional 2-3 days to reach the addressee by mail. Also, students may choose to have their transcripts expedited for an additional fee. Student must include Student ID number with their order. To look up Student ID, Click Here.

Replacement Certificate or Degree

If your certificate or degree has been damaged or lost, you may order a replacement diploma. Requesting a replacement or duplicate credential costs $25 per credential. Please ensure you indicate the quarter and year that you originally earned the credential(s).

Unofficial Transcript

An unofficial transcript consists of a student's academic record without a signature, seal, date, or sealed envelope. There is no fee to obtain your unofficial transcript. Viewing an unofficial transcript is the best way for students to get their grades once they have been posted after the quarter's end. To access your unofficial transcript, click on the link below, select "ctcLink Login," and log in using your ctcLink number and password. Click on "Academics" then "View Unofficial Transcript." In the upper right corner, click "View PDF."

Clock Hours to Quarter Credits

In summer quarter 2009, Renton Technical College converted from awarding clock hours to quarter credits. For students who completed courses prior to 2009, their transcripts will show both quarter credits and clock hours in a blended view.

Please note that any credits earned at RTC before summer 2009 while the college was on the clock hour system, will not be converted to your ctcLink transcript however, they should be available on your Legacy Transcript.

Converting Clock Hour Credits to Quarter Credits

Credit hours equates to 1:16.5 clock hours as determined by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. These hours are totaled and combined in one number noted on the Transcript under the heading “Hr Earn”. To convert Clock hours to Quarter credits, simply divide the total of hours earned (noted on transcript under “Hr Earn” heading) by 16.5.

(These are not combined with the cumulative GPA of grades earned starting summer of 2009.)

Calculating the Grade Point Average

Competencies and grades completed prior to summer 2009 are transcripted based on the following information:
The grade point value of the academic course letter grade and the rating of the professional-technical course is multiplied by the clock hours in each course (not shown on transcript) to determine the grade points.

For example:

Grade/Rating Value Clock Hours Grade Points
General Biology B- 2.7 55 148.5
Safety Standards 4 4.0 66 264
Basic Technical Skills 3 3.0 41 123
Total
- - 162 535.5

In the example above, total Grade Points of 535.5 divided by the total of 162 Clock Hours equals the Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.3. On the transcript, total grade points (GPTS) are divided by the total clock hours (GPA HR) to arrive at the grade point average (GPA).
