Opportunity Grant (OG): A Workforce Education Program

The Goal of OG:

  • Help low-income students to earn a short certificate up to one year of college credits. 
  • Increase job skills and prepare for high wage & demand careers.
  • May cover tuition expenses for up to 45 college credits and includes books and fees up to $1,000 per academic year.
  • The OG expired three years after the initial payment date.

To qualify, students must:

  • Be a WA resident student as defined in RCW 28B.15.012.
  • Have low-income status—refer to the chart below.
  • Enrolled in an Opportunity Grant Approved Program
  • Complete an opportunity Grant application  
    • Provide proof of income.
    • Review and sign the RTC OG Declaration.

2025–2026: Family Income Chart for households earning at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level

2 $42,300
3 $53,300
4 $64,300
Each additional family member adds $11,000.

Milestone Requirements:

  • Students are required to submit their FAFSA or WASFA applications by the second quarter and show financial need.
    • FAFSA OR  
    • WASFA
      • Aid is available for non-citizen students.
  • Maintain a 2.0 grade point average.
  • Must renew your OG funding application every quarter.
  • Dedicated to completing your program.

College Support Services Available:

  • Tutoring
  • Career planning
  • Essential basic need resources, i.e. food navigation, etc.

OG cannot cover any unrelated prerequisite courses or direct transfer degrees (DTAs).

Funding is limited and not guaranteed. Eligible applications may be placed on a waiting list until funds are available.
