Renton Technical College (RTC) has again been named one of top 150 community colleges in the country by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program.
RTC was selected from a pool of nearly 1,000 public two-year colleges nationwide to compete for the 2019 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the nation’s signature community college recognition of high achievement and performance resulting in student success. RTC was a top 10 Aspen Prize college in 2015 and a Top 150 school in 2017.
“Student success is at the core of RTC’s mission to provide our diverse student population with educational opportunities for career readiness and advancement, so this recognition is particularly meaningful to us,” President Kevin McCarthy said. “We don’t do this important work for awards, but to watch our students’ lives transform through their time with us. But we are extremely proud the Aspen Institute recognizes our efforts.”
Awarded every two years since 2011, the Aspen Prize recognizes institutions with outstanding achievements in four areas: learning; certificate and degree completion; employment and earnings; and high levels of access and success for minority and low-income students.
Top 150 colleges have the opportunity to move forward to the next round of the competition for the $1 million Aspen Prize. Five other colleges in Washington are on the list of the Top 150. For a full list of the top 150 eligible institutions, visit: www.highered.aspeninstitute.org/aspen-prize.
