Automotive Technology Complex Grand Opening – May 11, 2017
This is the future and RTC is at the center of new technology and training for the automotive industry.
State-of-the-art facility
The renovation and new construction of the “K Complex” are providing RTC with one of the most advanced automotive training facilities in the state, directly supporting the mission of RTC. The facility also enhances the College as a whole, with its strong integration into the campus Master Plan, improving the character, identity, and environment of the campus. It will be the first building at RTC to be awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
Square footage
Building K1: 25,325 SF
Building K2: 10,290 SF
Building K3: 17,645 SF
Building K4: 10,290 SF
Total: 63,550 SF
The Automotive Technologies Education and Training programs at Renton Technical College are vital to the success of this important local industry sector. Prior to the renovation, the 28-year-old Automotive “K” buildings were not keeping up with the growing technological and physical needs of the automotive programs.
The modernization strengthens RTC’s enduring partnership with the Ford Company through an expansion of the Ford ASSET (Automotive Student Service Educational Training) program. The only college in Washington to offer this intensive program, where students train to work as professional automotive technicians on Ford products in ASE-certified centers, including internships in authorized Ford, Lincoln or Mazda dealerships.
