This program meets both Washington State and federal curriculum requirements for Nursing Assistant Certification. Once certified, graduates are eligible for employment in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, retirement/assisted living facilities, adult family homes, and in-home health care.

RTC Nursing Assistant Program is approved by the Department of Health (DOH) and the Washington State Board of Nursing (WABON).

Admission to the CNA program requires prospective students to meet the following criteria and submit all required documentation upon enrollment into the program. Incomplete or missing documentation may jeopardize a student’s ability to successfully participate in the program. For questions regarding these requirements, please contact us at Nursing@rtc.edu.

  1. Completion of a Washington State Patrol “Name and Date of Birth” background check through the WATCH system, record must be within 12 months.
  2. An active Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) is required and must remain valid throughout the program. Certifications from other organizations will not be accepted. Applicants should visit the AHA website to locate a nearby training center, select “BLS” when searching, and enroll in the “BLS Provider” course.
  3. Tuberculosis test, record must be within 12 months. Requires one of the options below:
    1. Two-step PPD Skin Test OR
    2. QuantiFERON TB Gold blood test OR
    3. Negative chest X-Ray or health care provider’s note
  4. COVID vaccination. Original vaccination or current booster are acceptable.
  5. Flu vaccination. Record must be within the current flu season, usually taken in the Fall or Winter.
  6. Active personal health insurance. Examples: Provider One, Apple Health, Medicare, Medicaid, Premera, United Health Care, Regence, health insurance from work, etc.
