CENTRAL SERVICE TECHNICIAN
Prepare to be at the heart of hospital operations with our Central Service Technician program. You will learn to sterilize and prepare medical devices and supplies, which are crucial in patient care. This program includes training in microbiology, sterilization procedures, and surgical instrument care, complemented by an internship at a local hospital. It's your first step toward a fulfilling healthcare career.
This is an I-BEST program, which provides additional instructional support in math, reading, writing, and academic study skills.

This program is designed to provide the training and the clinical experience required to prepare you for the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) [formerly the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management] Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification. It can also be your first step towards a career in the healthcare field. Students gain knowledge of National and International standards for decontamination and sterilization. Students study the principles of microbiology with emphasis on decontamination, disinfection and sterilization, with an overview of medical terminology, fundamentals of human anatomy, proper care and handling of surgical instrumentation, basic surgical instrument identification, inventory control, distribution, purchasing, and healthcare trends. An internship at a local hospital is included in the program.

OTHER INFORMATION
To be admitted to the Central Service Technician Program, a prospective student must meet the following requirements:
- English Fluency (verbal and written)
- Show full compliance in CastleBranch.
- Proof of successful completion of Hepatitis B vaccine (series of three vaccines and/or
immunity titer) prior to registration
- Initial vaccine series requires a minimum of seven months to complete
Upon invitation and acceptance to the Central Service Technician Program, students must provide confirmation of an account established with 8CastleBranch.com and pass a nationwide criminal background check (Crimes Against Persons list).

I-BEST
This program has I-BEST support. Students are also required to complete the I-BEST Identification Survey, and will receive an email regarding I-BEST eligibility. Students who place into I-BEST will also need to complete the LACES Intake Form.
Screening and Tracking Requirements
After receiving an invitation to the program, students must meet vaccination and program-specific health requirements in compliance with the Center for Disease Control Healthcare Provider immunization guidelines, including the submission of original lab results, x-ray reports, and immunization records, which must be dated and signed by their healthcare provider. Students must also show that they have uploaded all CastleBranch requirements, with the exception of CPR, which will be completed during class.
*Vaccinations must be current while on externships
- Annual Tuberculosis skin test (Must not expire during clinicals.)
- Annual seasonal Influenza vaccine
- Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap) vaccine within last 10 years (Must not expire during clinicals.)
- Hepatitis B vaccine (series of three vaccines and immunity titer)
- Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine (two vaccines or proof of immunity titer)
- Varicella vaccine (two vaccines or proof of immunity titer)
- Annual background-check through CastleBranch.com
- Personal health insurance upon entry and for the duration of the program
- Although the COVID vaccination is not currently a program admission requirement, our clinical partners may require a student to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID. Clinical placements may be unavailable for students who are not fully immunized
- Current (within one year) physical evaluation by a physician or nurse practitioner
to ensure student and patient safety
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and to reach overhead
- Ability to stand or walk for long periods

- The students should be informed that Health Insurance is required to participate in the clinical placement process.
- COVID Vaccination is required for clinical placement and although RTC accepts religious exemptions, clinical sites do not. If you are seeking a religious exemption, clinical sites will not except these, therefore students that choose to enroll will not be able to successful complete the program chosen.
MMR, Varicella and HEP-B immunizations should be in progress by the first day of class. The HEP-B vaccination can be accepted if students have completed the 2 series, 3 series, or have a positive immunity tither. All vaccinations must be completed by the second week of the quarter. If students are not compliant, they will forfeit clinical placement/delay program completion.
To participate in the clinical placement process, students must have a social security card or work authorization.
