Chapter 9 - Section 6 - Branding Policy
Policy
Consistent use of the Renton Technical College brand unifies the efforts of the entire College community, reinforces the College’s reputation, and distinguishes RTC from other institutions of higher education. A strong and cohesive brand identity enhances relationships with prospective students, employees, alums, community partners, and other stakeholders while promoting recognition, trust, and credibility. This policy protects and strengthens Renton Technical College’s brand and reputation by establishing standards for the consistent and appropriate use of the College’s name, logos, color palette, typography, photographs, graphics, trademarks, and other visual identity elements.
College Name
Always refer to the College as “Renton Technical College”. Do not use Renton Tech or Renton Voc-Tech. On first reference, refer to the College as “Renton Technical College " when space allows. RTC is acceptable internally and for public-facing communications with limited space.
College Logos
Use the downloadable logo graphics found on the Communications and Marketing Web page and SharePoint site. The official College logo contains the complete College name. The registered RTC box element of the logo may be used on its own only when space is limited.
When using the RTC box element of the logo, use the registered logo (the one containing the TM symbol). No alterations to the logo are permitted.
Logo Usage
The primary RTC logo should be used on official College materials, including but not limited to:
- Letterhead and business cards
- Press releases and media materials
- Institutional reports and publications
- Official forms and applications
- Accreditation, compliance, and regulatory documents
- Award and nomination submissions
- Board and executive communications
- Other formal communications representing the College
In addition to the full RTC logo and the RTC box logo, the College has seven Areas of Study logos. The same guidelines apply to these logos.
Ravens Logo Usage
The College has adopted a secondary Ravens logo to represent the mascot selected by the student body. The Ravens logo is an official College mark and may not be altered, modified, stretched, recolored, or recreated in any way without approval from the Communications and Marketing Department.
The primary RTC logo remains the College’s official institutional identifier and must be used on formal and official College communications.
Appropriate uses of the Ravens logo include student-focused communications and activities, such as:
- Promotional items
- Student events and activities
- Internal newsletters and campus communications
- Internal email communications and e-newsletters
- Student engagement initiatives
- Student Life and student club materials
Department or Organization Logos
Departments, programs, committees, employee groups, and initiatives may not create or adopt independent logos, visual identities, or branding elements without approval from the Executive Director of College Relations and Marketing.
